Θα προσπαθήσω να παραθέσω παραδείγματα που θα αναδείξουν το κεντρικό νόημα, από πρακτικής πλευράς, αυτών των φράσεων.
- Before I joined the army, I was used to getting up late in the morning. (ήμουν εξοικειωμένος)
- Give me another month and I will get used to my job. (θα εξοικειωθώ)
- Although Mary has been in Japan for over a year now, she still hasn’t got accustomed to taking her shoes off before she walks into a traditional restaurant yet. (δεν είναι εξοικειωμένη)
- I don’t think I’ll ever get accustomed to the Greek tradition of eating snails. (θα εξοικειωθώ)
- My father is quite familiar with my mania for listening to hip-hop cd’s. (είναι εξοικειωμένος)
- Tina is getting familiar with the fact of having to work hard at university. (εξοικειώνεται)
- Peter and Mary have become used to the July heat in Greece. They’ve been living here for some time now. (έχουν συνηθίσει/εξοικειωθεί)
Και, φυσικά, μη ξεχνάτε:
- I used to drink a lot of milk when I was a teenager. I don’t anymore. (συνήθιζα να)
- The use of cars is not allowed on this island. (χρήση)
- I use sugar to make my tea sweet. (χρησιμοποιώ)
- Myriam used a knife to cut the bread. (χρησιμοποίησα)
