Advantages – Disadvantages

Οι εκθέσεις με πλεονεκτήματα και μειονεκτήματα είναι σχετικά πιο εύκολες από τα άλλα είδη εκθέσεων που συνήθως γράφουμε στις εξετάσεις για την απόκτηση ενός  πτυχίου για να πιστοποιήσουμε τις γνώσεις μας αλλά και να μπορούμε να επικοινωνούμε ικανοποιητικά με αλλόγλωσσους ανθρώπους. Από τη στιγμή που επιλέγουμε ένα θέμα πρέπει να γνωρίζουμε τα υπέρ και τα κατά. Εδώ η ουδετερότητά μας είναι σημαντική γιατί πρέπει να δώσουμε μια ισορροπημένη εικόνα του θέματος που μας απασχολεί. Δεν επεμβαίνουμε, απλώς ζυγίζουμε τα υπέρ και κατά και τα παρουσιάζουμε δείχνοντας και τις δύο πλευρές του θέματος. Με άλλα λόγια, δεν θα προσπαθήσουμε να οδηγήσουμε τον αναγνώστη κάπου χωρίς να το θέλει, απλά δίνουμε πληροφορίες γύρω από το θέμα. Τίποτε άλλο. Και, φυσικά, δεν επαναλαμβάνουμε το λεξιλόγιο της εκφώνησης.

Τι κάνουμε λοιπόν;

1. Καταγράφουμε σε δύο λίστες όλα τα πλεονεκτήματα και μειονεκτήματα που μπορούμε να σκεφτούμε. Αν το θέμα μας είναι  ‘Τι να διαλέξω – αυτοκίνητο ή μοτοσυκλέτα;’ (Cars or Motorbikes?) χρειάζομαι να συγκεντρώσω ιδέες, στοιχεία και επιχειρήματα όπως:

 Αυτοκίνητο / Advantages:

• More than two people can travel together  
• Fast access to shopping malls, work etc.  
• Greater mobility to old and invalid

Αυτοκίνητο / Disadvantages:

• Pollution (toxic emissions from exhaust pipes)
• High costs (insurance, tax, repairs, petrol, etc.) 
• Parking problems (lack of space, parking fees)  

Μοτοσυκλέτα / Advantages:

• Easier to park 
• More flexible in traffic 
• Lower running costs

Μοτοσυκλέτα / Disadvantages:

• High rate of accidents 
• Exposure to all weather conditions
• Easy to steal

Τελικά επιλέγουμε τα σημεία / επιχειρήματα που χρειαζόμαστε  (δε μπορούμε να τα συμπεριλάβουμε όλα γιατί, τότε, ο αριθμός των λέξεων θα ξεπερνούσε το συγκεκριμένο όριο που πάντα μας ζητούν) και αρχίζουμε να δημιουργούμε την έκθεσή μας από, φυσικά, την εισαγωγή:

1. Greater mobility to old and invalid people (Advantage) (Cars)
2. Parking problems (lack of space, parking fees) (Disadvantage) (Cars) 
3. More flexible in traffic (Advantage) (Motorbike)
4. High rate of accidents (Disadvantage) (Motorbike)

Introduction 

Nowadays a growing number of people are faced with the question whether to buy a car or a motorbike so as to get to work, do their shopping or simply for recreational reasons. (27 words)

Development

One major advantage of buying a car is that more passengers can be taken when traveling, giving you quality time with them and making journeys more pleasant. (27 words)

Yet, a major disadvantage of owning a car is finding a secure place to park it. As in many cases, in heavily built residential areas, finding a parking space requires a lot of patience and of course luck. (38 words)

On the other hand, a point in favour of riding a motor bike is that it is more flexible in heavy traffic. This means you can move forward through the gaps leaving the endless lines of cars behind you. (39 words)

However, the biggest disadvantage of riding a motorbike is a high number of motorcycle accidents. This  the result of more and more people opting to buy this more convenient, cheaper form of transport. (33 words)

Conclusion

To sum up, potential car or motorbike buyers should take into consideration the pros and cons before they make their final decision. (22 words)
